Until recently, most rc airplanes were powered by small two-stroke engines, using liquid fuels. Models powered by electric motors were very uncommon, due to the excessive weight of the power system and battery. However, the electric rc airplane has become commonplace, especially in models meant for beginner pilots.
Electric power advantages include reliability, convenience, low noise, low vibration, and clean operation. The disadvantage of early systems was low power relative to weight. However modern electric airplane motors, combined with advanced batteries, have increased the performance of electric rc airplanes by leaps and bounds.
In the more common Brushed motors, current switching is done using sliding contacts known as brushes. These brushes get hot and wear out over time. In Brushless motors, the switching happens electronically using a special speed controller. This second type of motor and its controller are more expensive to make. Its advantages are no maintenance and higher performance.
There are three main types of battery packs in use for electric airplane motors. These are Nickel Cadmium (NiCad), Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) and Lithium Polymer (LiPo). LiPo batteries are lighter for a given application, but are more expensive than NiCad or NiMH.
Electric rc airplane types include powered sailplanes, indoor flyers, scale models, aerobatic models, and ducted fan (jet-type). Virtually any type of rc model can now be electric powered. Even electric helicopters are now a practical reality. For the beginner, something slow and stable is recommended for a trainer aircraft.

Another addition to the list of Canada’s pride is the young and talented lady Ellen Page. Fresh from her success in the Award-winning comedy-drama film Juno, the 21-year-old hot and sexy actress recently received both Golden Globe and Academy Award best actress nominations for her role as Juno MacGuff, a 16-year-old high school student who tries to deal with her untimely pregnancy.

Real Day: : The songs on “Real Day” reflect how I see everyday life. The characters, are all parts of me — kind of my weird take on the world and definitely a little bent but that’s how I see things. The songs have many influences — from rock to country — inspired by artists ranging from Tom Petty to Rickie Lee Jones. People ask me who I compare myself to or what the album sounds like — although I hate to limit my music, “Real Day” is pop with a lot of roots influences. Alice Peacock’s debut album, Real Day, is a wonderful set of country rockers, ballads, and honky-tonk workouts. Lyrically, Peacock delivers the goods on the usual subject matter–love, heartbreak, and personal triumph–but with a sincerity and originality that is rare and refreshing. The character of her voice entices you and makes you care about what she’s saying. In the song “I’ll Be the One,” Peacock proclaims with quiet triumph that she’s “not the one you’re looking for” and that she’ll “be the first to say good-bye,” and yet the plaintiveness in her voice gives her away. You are about to buy your first RC car. You go into the shop and you are offered two different cars. One is powered by electricity (an electric RC car) and the other - by real fuel (the nitro RC car). You begin to wonder and you really do not know which one to choose.
If you do not want to be part of this situation, learn the differences about each type radio controlled vehicle before you go to the shop. Knowing the insides will help you make a choice.
The main difference between an electric car and the fuel powered car is the motor. The electric car has batteries. They are charged with electricity that makes the car function. The nitro remote controlled car has a motor. It is powered by fuel just like a normal car. The fuel used is a special methanol based fuel for RC cars. There are other RC cars that use gasoline however they are larger models and not quite typical hobby RC cars.
If you want an electric motor car there is one thing to consider - brushed or brushless motor. The brushed motors are usually used for toy RC cars while the brushless ones are used in hobby RC cars making. Brushless motors tend to be more expensive however they have better characteristics. They do not need a lot of cleaning, they produce less heat that extends the life of the engine, and they can give more speed to your car.
Once you know what kind of engine you want, you should consider the other very important structural element of the car - the chassis. There are two types - metal and plastic. The plastic chassis are made of carbon fiber that gives strength and is very light. The metal chassis are made of aluminum. It is the most common type of chassis for nitro and gas RC cars as it can stand the heat produced by the engine. Moreover an aluminum chassis helps the engine cool.
The gears, wheels and axels of a RC car are also important. They can be made of plastic (typical for the toy grade RC cars) or metal. Metal ones are more durable and recommended for the nitro cars.
The final thing to consider is the runtime of your car. If it is powered by battery it will be able to run for about 15 minutes per battery until you need to recharge. Depending on the number of batteries you may have a whole hour before the power goes down. The nitro cars depend on fuel so the tank size is important for their runtime. On the other hand a tank is refilled for less than a minute.
