Lucy: Growing Up Human : A Chimpanzee Daughter in a Psychotherapist’s Family A Landmark and Highly Idiosyncratic StudyThis is a fascinating and readable book which poses many compelling questions. After adopting a baby chimp and saving it from what would have surely been a dreary life in a two-bitcarnival, the chimp is treated like a human child and it is many, many years before it even sets eyes on a fellow chimp. Lucy learns sign language and adapts quite well to her human environment but in other rather substantial ways, remains true to her species.I do not believe that there is another book out there that poses the sorts of questions that this book does.
