Activision’s latest lets players conduct citywide scavenger hunt for shoes in between perp-busting, dead-partner-avenging.

True Crime: Streets of LA and its upcoming PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube sequel, True Crime: New York City, naturally have a lot in common. The former game puts players in the shoes of Nick Kang, a loose-cannon cop who bends the rules to get results and to avenge his brother while roaming a faithfully re-created virtual LA.       The latter game puts players in the shoes of Marcus Reed, a rookie cop who bends the rules to get results and to avenge his partner while roaming a faithfully re-created New York City. One more thing they have in common is that those shoes players are going to fill are Puma shoes.

Activision today announced that just as it did with Streets of LA, it has partnered with Puma to have the shoe manufacturer’s products featured in True Crime: New York City. As part of the promotion, Puma shoes designed new special edition RS-100 sneakers that will be sold in select stores throughout New York City, both in-game and in real life. There will also be a side quest in the game that has players finding RS-100 sneakers hidden all over the city and returning them to the virtual storefronts of those selected retailers. If they can find and return all of them, players will get access to a full Puma outfit for main character Marcus Reed to wear.

Limited to 200 pairs, the True Crime RS-100 shoe will be sold at the Puma shoes Store Soho, Classic Kicks, Flight Club, and Clientele, as well as online. The red-and-silver shoe is branded with the True Crime logo on the insole and has an embroidered “T” and “C” on both heels. Both the shoe and the game will be available in November.
